FAQs

Questions, answered.

And if yours is not here, please book a complimentary 15 minute session — that is exactly what it is for.

How do I know if this is going to work for me or my child?

Honestly, you do not — not with certainty, and nobody offering coaching can promise you otherwise. What you can do is find out quickly and at no cost.

The complimentary 15-minute consultation exists for this reason. In that conversation we look at what your student is actually responsible for, what keeps pulling them off track, and whether the difficulties you are describing are the kind Orbit works on — difficulties with distraction, focus, concentration, organisation and getting started, particularly where confidence has started to take the hit.

If they are, you will get a clear sense of what the first few sessions would target. Beyond that, you have two more early signals: weekly written notes from the very first session, so progress and focus areas are visible rather than assumed, and a complimentary review meeting plus written progress report at the end of every term. You are never more than a week away from knowing what is happening.

One honest caveat: executive functioning is a skill set, not a switch. Real change shows up over a term, not over a fortnight. What should show up early is a student who knows what to do next.

What if it's not a good fit?

Then we would rather know, and so would you.

There is no lock-in contract on casual sessions. They are billed weekly, so stopping is simply a matter of telling us — you are never committed further than the week you are in.

If the fit is not right because of the coaching relationship, the timing, or the format, say so. Sometimes the fix is small: a different time of day, a different subject as the vehicle, a shift from weekly sessions to a holiday intensive, or moving between 1:1 and a small group. Those adjustments are normal and expected — session content and structure are designed to be flexible.

And if Orbit is genuinely not what your student needs, we will tell you that in the initial consultation rather than after ten sessions. Where we can, we will point you toward the kind of support that would suit them better.

What is your cancellation policy?

In the event of an emergency, cancellations are always free of charge. No explanation required and no questions asked.

Beyond emergencies, leniency is granted for up to three non-motivation no-shows. After that, the client will be charged the full amount for the missed session.

Where possible, please notify us of changes to your schedule in advance, so that a suitable make-up session time can be arranged. Advance notice almost always means the session can be moved rather than lost.

If a change has to be made from our end, you will be notified as soon as possible and a make-up session will be offered at a time that suits you, at no additional cost.

What does it cost, and how does billing work?

Sessions are $110 per hour, billed weekly. A bulk-buy term package of ten sessions is $900, which saves $200 against the casual rate. Holiday intensives are $500 per week, also billed weekly.

The initial 15-minute consultation is complimentary, as is the 15-minute review meeting at the end of each term and the written progress report that comes with it. Weekly session notes are included at no extra cost.

When are sessions available?

At a time that suits your schedule, Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 7am and 7pm. Regular weekly sessions are available, and most families choose a consistent slot so it becomes part of the student's own routine. Times are subject to availability.

What age or year level is Orbit for?

Orbit is aimed primarily at students beginning at Year 5, up to university level. Any outliers are more than welcome to inquire based on their individual needs and circumstances — if you are unsure whether your student sits inside that range, please ask rather than assume.

Is this tutoring, or something else?

Something else, though the two overlap. The focus of sessions is predominantly on executive functioning skills — planning, organisation, task initiation, prioritising, managing distraction, and the self-talk that holds all of it together.

The medium through which those skills are taught varies, and specific academic focus is available in all subject areas. In practice an academic area in need of support or extension is often the vehicle we use, because a skill practised on a real assignment is the one that transfers. So the work frequently looks like subject help — but the goal is always the underlying skill.

Academic work is based on the Australian Curriculum and is available in all states. Where a student needs it, syllabus-specific targeted learning outcomes are available on request — tell us the state, the year level and the subject, and the session can be built directly against the outcomes that require focus.

Do parents get to be involved?

Yes. Detailed session notes are provided weekly, including progress made, areas for future focus and homework, so you can see what is happening without having to interrogate anyone at dinner.

There is a complimentary 15-minute review meeting once at the end of each term, along with a detailed progress report.

Is homework compulsory?

No. Homework is included in the weekly session notes and is always optional. It is there for students who want something to practise between sessions — not as a compliance test. Plenty of students make excellent progress without it.

Who will my child actually be working with?

Victoria, our head coach. She is an experienced primary teacher currently studying her Master of Educational Neuroscience, and she hosts the initial consultation as well as all ongoing sessions and term reviews.

She also simply loves science, which is why the orbit model is not decoration here — explaining to a student how their own brain is working is her favourite part of the job.

What happens to the information I put in the intake form?

It is used to prepare for your consultation and to shape sessions around your student — nothing else. It is not sold, and it is not shared with third parties for marketing. Our full privacy notice sets out what is collected, how it is used, how long it is kept and how to ask for it to be deleted.
